panic attack anxiety disorder
does drinking affect my panic attack, anxiety disorder please help?

please help
I have anxiety disorder and get panic attacks alot randomly
im going to a party next weekend
can drinking alchohol affect any of the problems I have ?

and im not on any medication
I have rescue remedy its a homeopathic method
it dosent work but whatever.
but I dont often drink
I just want to for my birthday next weekend
get drunk
is that too bad ?

I have anxiety, so I too, worry about if taking a depressant will make me freak out. Surely, you can see the irony in retrospect. Casual alcohol use will not affect your anxiety. HOWEVER, alcoholism WILL make it worse. Go out with your friends and have a good time. Just don’t drink all the time and you will be fine. :) Have fun. Happy early birthday.

anxiety attack symptoms and treatment

November 30th, 2007 admin No comments

What are the symptoms fro Anxiety/Panic Attack? Is any treatment for this? What makes us to have this?

Sweating, a feeling of dread, hyperventilation, feeling of the room spinning , feeling nauseous, dizziness, pain in chest, gulping for air, feeling hot/ burning up inside, feeling extremely scared.

There is no known reason why some people suffer and others don’t but it is a natural response to stressful situations. Your body releases a wave of adrenelin to prepare you for action. It is thought that this is left over from when we had to fight predators or run from them. It is nature’s way of making us react to a dangerous situation. The problem arises when you start releasing this adreneline in situations that aren’t neccessarily dangerous which in turn, can result in a panic attack.

Treatment is usually successful by using medication and/or therapy to retrain the brain into forming new habits and thought patterns . This is referred to as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

anxiety disorder nos code

Some people don’t know that they are actually suffering from social anxiety disorder. Here is a quick self-test to help you understand your symptoms.

Anxiety disorder is described as excessive anxiety and worry about several events or activities. Unlike the rather mild and brief anxiety caused by a stressful event, anxiety disorders last at least six months and may worsen if they are not getting immediate treatment.

Anxiety disorders usually occur along with other mental or physical illnesses, such as drug abuse and alcohol abuse, which may perhaps mask the anxiety symptoms or make them worse. There are several types of anxiety disorders and one of them is social anxiety disorder or social phobia.

Social anxiety disorder is diagnosed if you become tremendously anxious and extremely uncomfortable in everyday social situations. It is understood as extreme fear in the aspect of social interaction. They can worry for days or weeks even before the dreaded situation.

This anxiety may become so severe that it may affect daily activities. Social anxiety is a medically recognized disorder that harshly hinders the value of life. People with social phobia have an intense, persistent, and constant fear of being watched and judged by others.

Various causes are suspected, especially in the combination of genetic composition, early growth and development, and later life experience. These causes are categorized into the following:

Genetic disposition: it is possible that child of one or both shy parents may inherit genetic code that amplifies shyness into social anxiety disorder.

Ethology: averting the gaze is very usual with social anxiety disorder.

Development: social anxiety emerges at different developmental stages. Solitude becomes more important as anxiety about physical looks and performance in school increases. We also know that traumatic stressful events in life occurring at an early developmental stage may increase the risk of social anxiety disorder.

Chemical disorder in the brain: people with anxiety disorder may have abnormalities in the functioning of some parts of their anxiety response system. The anxiety system is influenced by four areas of the human brain namely; the brain system (cardiovascular and respiratory functions), limbic system (mood and anxiety), prefrontal cortex (appraisals of risk and danger), and motor cortex (control of muscles).

There are people with social phobia who realize that their fears about being with people are overwhelming and irrational, but they find it difficult to overcome them. If they are able to confront their fears and be around with others, they are usually very worried ahead of time, and extremely uncomfortable throughout the whole encounter, and worry about how they were judged the whole time afterwards. But, this illness is curable with certain kinds of psychotherapy or medications.

The physical symptoms that usually accompany social anxiety disorder include, blushing, too much sweating, trembling, nausea, and difficulty talking. When these symptoms occur, people with social anxiety disorder usually fell as though all eyes are focused only to them.

The next time we see someone from a party or any social functions and we someone looking uncomfortable, we should not pay more attention to them like we usually do. For all we know, that person might be struggling deep inside trying to overcome his or her fear.

generalized anxiety disorder symptoms dsm

November 26th, 2007 admin No comments

Common stresses cause a lot of us to experience some level of anxiety. Anxiety has beneficial effects, by making us to put more effort and attention into those matters which have impact on our well-being. The effect of anxiety only becomes damaging when it begins to become the focus of a person’s everyday life. At this point, it potentially has the severity to be considered a clinical issue by mental health workers. The trouble for most is in perceiving when anxiety crosses the threshold from normal to overwhelming. This fact is borne out by the fact that the casual use of the word anxiety hides its complexity as a whole group of disorders as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). Conditions range in degree of seriousness, from milder forms (e.g. generalized anxiety disorder or GAD), to more serious ones (e.g. obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD). Understanding the kind, origins and category of anxiety will send a person much nearer to a way of mitigating or eliminating intense anxiety.

Everyday stressors, including events such as switching jobs or quitting a career, are all causal factors of anxiety. Nervousness, jittery feelings, and extra attention to detail are responses to these events of normal intensity of anxiety. In contrast, those suffering from an anxiety disorder will experience much more intense versions of these feelings.  Tellingly, physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, shaking and sweating afflict people with anxiety disorders.

The DSM-IV lists a substantial number of conditions that are categorized under the inclusive definition “anxiety. For the purpose of conferring to sufferers some understanding into their disorder, and to show the complexity of the condition three anxiety-related diseases are noted here. With apparently little trigger the first condition, called “panic attack”, makes sufferers prone to unexpected onset of panic accompanied by profuse sweating and chest pains. Unlike “panic attacks”, the second example is the condition of OCD, which makes patients feel continuous, persistent fear which compels them to repeat motions in an attempt to dampen the fear. For the third example, “social anxiety disorder” makes people be unable to interact with other people in a normal setting, instead feeling fear and humiliation when among them. The possibility of being a target for ridicule is the reason for these fears.

Diagnosis and categorization of an anxiety disorder relies on visual examination, interview responses to questions, and a litany of symptoms correlated with the disorder. The mental health physician will ask about particular symptoms, such as bad dreams, problems sleeping, level and persistence of feelings of fear. The list of seemingly subjective criteria implies such a diagnosis is not an easy task. It is true while each symptom alone does not signal indisputable diagnosis of anxiety disorder, the total effect of several symptoms can convince the mental health worker the case of and kind of anxiety disorder.

The root causes of all these anxiety disorder is the ultimate question in the thoughts of many. As is true for many psychiatric disorders, the answer is unclear because of our limited understanding of the nature and biology of the brain. The three major beliefs for the root causes separate (and overlap) into three kinds : environmental, neurochemical, and genetic. The environmental hypothesis finds anxiety to be like diabetes: prompted by lifestyle and habits. Type II diabetes is speculated to be caused by adopting a lifestyle characterized by habits that lead to obesity. Insulin resistance and thus diabetes are believed to be a response of the body to the environs.  Similarly, permanently stressful situations can give rise to long term bodilly responses that morph into anxiety disorder.  Likewise, brain chemistry is thought to be the basic cause of anxiety disorders. Stress responses that inhibit “calm” signals, under tranquil circumstances, are released by brain cells. But the brain may be be slave to continuous stimulation and anxiety levels can blow out of control if the emission of this chemical become misregulated. Finally, some believe that anxiety disorders arise out of genetic makeup. Indeed, anxiety seems to run in sibling relationships, constituting the proof of the idea. The complexity of anxiety disorders suggest proper diagnosis can yield a difference in procuring the correct solution.

Panic attacks while sleeping seem to be unfounded. For people who suffer from them they may wonder what caused a panic attack to happen when your body is at rest. The truth may actually be easier to find than one might think. Panic attacks while sleeping are often caused by stress that we have experienced throughout the day. Often people will wake up at night while having a panic attack that is the result of a dramatic change that has happened in their life.

Some people may experience panic attacks while sleeping after they have lost a loved one. The stress that one goes through during the grieving process can often cause panic attacks while sleeping. During the waking hours you may have trouble dealing with your grief while also having to deal with the everyday stress of life. Often this will cause the body to do into overload and symptoms will come out during the sleeping hours.

Another possible cause of panic attacks while sleeping is a change in your life such as a move or job change. You may not even realize you are under stress about these changes until they manifest themselves during the night.

Most people who suffer from panic attacks while sleeping will be able to pinpoint the cause. When you are awakened by an attack you can try to focus on the reason for the attack. If there are any significant changes going on in your life you will be able to determine what they are. It is rare that someone experiences panic attacks while sleeping without knowing the root cause.

If you awaken with one of these attacks there are some things you can do to help your situation. Try to do some deep breathing exercises that will help you relax. To do this you can inhale slowly through your nose and hold it for a count of five. Then you can exhale slowly the same way to the count of five. Keep repeating this process until you feel the tension leaving your body. While doing these exercises try to focus on something relaxing, such as a waterfall or a gently rain.

Some people benefit from placing a small waterfall in their bedroom that they can turn on at night. The sound of water is soothing and will often help you to relax. Also, the scent of lavender has been known to soothe the soul and help people relax and fall asleep. Try putting scents of lavender in your bedroom that will allow you to smell it all night. Plug-ins are often a good way to do this.

The important factor in dealing with panic attacks while sleeping is to understand the cause of the attack. Once you determine the cause you can work on the solution. The solution will allow you to get the sleep you need to face a busy day and live a normal life.

treating anxiety disorders in children
Psychologist Appointments feel like a waste of time and money … I will benefit in the long run?

I've been going to a psychologist for some weeks (3 visits) and do not really feel I'm doing nothing out of it. My mom is making me go because of my anxiety attacks and behavior injurous car. The Psych diagnosed me: – Generalized Anxiety Disorder – Panic Disorder – Depression (mild) – Bulimia then spent 3 discussion sessions Stratergies relaxation and ways to make me happy. She treats me like a child because I am 16 years old, and she did not seem to realize that I am able to engage in adult conversation educated! Should I continue with the therapy or try to help myself again?

I carry a little more, but discuss with your psychologist what kind of things people do when they treat you like a child and how that irritates you. With a little luck, the psychologist has the track. The best way though is to demonstrate through of their actions and words that you may be treated as a person with more maturity. Also discuss what types of forms of treatment for you. If you feel that what has been discussed so far is of no benefit, explain why. Ask for things you can do between the sessions that would be of benefit to you. That way you can combine sessions to help yourself. Oh, and one end. If the talk immensely irritating because that definitely is not connected to their difficulties, then probably it is! Be so boring you do not want to talk about it may be a sign too. Your mind can conspire against you to think about the real reasons – the psychologist helps you reach there.

If you answer ‘Yes’ to 4 or more questions, you are definitely experiencing anxiety.

Take all the quizzes and find out whether you suffer from any one or more of these disorders. In all likelihood, if you suffer from stress you would experience signs of anxiety and even depression. You need to find ways to decrease stress in your life, while continuing to do what you do. Many people say, ‘How can I get rid of stress when my job/ home/ relationships demand so much from me?’

Of course, you can. There are ways whereby you can slow your life’s pace down without any negative impact on your performance or productivity. This is called working smart; a method where you do the same amount of work in less time and with less effort.  Besides, there are ways that could help you release stress at the end of the day such as meditation, self-hypnosis, exercise, nutrition and generally speaking, a change of life-style that forbids stress to stay for long around you.

Why I Wrote The Anthem for World Peace Song
From Greg Jones

GOD BLESS THE WORLD
While You Bless America

The special CD release by Greg Jones considered the new anthem for world peace is entitled God Bless the World-While You Bless America. Already available on over 125 music sites worldwide, this special peace anthem is garnering accolades worldwide. Below, Greg explains the motivation behind his powerful musical message for world peace.

“Yesterday, I was interviewed by a very nice reporter from the Euclid (Ohio) Sun Newspaper who is doing a story on the release of my Peace Song CD GOD BLESS THE WORLD-While You Bless America. His story will likely include how this special anthem has been garnering accolades worldwide and how it’s already available on over 125 music sites worldwide and hasn’t even hit national radio yet. He’ll probably mention how thankful I am for all of the support worldwide and how happy I am for the incredible snowball affect. But he asked me a question that I really did not give the true, full answer to. He asked, ‘what led me to write the world peace song?’

Simple question right? But after we departed, I thought back a bit and realized that the answer I had given… that I just want ‘to see the war end and our troops safe at home’ was not a full answer. The fact is, when 9/11 occured, I found it to be one of the most horrific events of modern day history. I could not believe that anyone could do something like the terrorists did, to absolute strangers. At that exact time, my daughter and wonderful son-in-law, who I proudly must add is serving our country in the Air Force, had just arrived at their new assignment which had them based and living in London, England. When the planes hit the Twin Towers all I kept wondering, in absolute panic was, are my daughter and son-in-law ok? I was going nuts!

Because phone lines were so jammed up, I attempted calling them over repeatedly but it was 2 weeks before I heard anything from my daughter, and wow…was I thankful to hear that they were OK. During this 2 week period I, (as we all were) had been going through such a roller coaster of emotions. Anger, fear, desire to learn everything I could overnight about the whole thing. Who is this Bin Laden? How did they know he did it so quickly? What the heck is going on? Man! My head was spinning. I was glued to the news channels.

In the meantime, I was also witnessing and experiencing the greatest show of American patriotism and togetherness that I had ever seen. EVERYWHERE you looked you saw the American flag blazed with pride. Stories were on the news about how flag companies couldn’t manufacture flags fast enough. It was incredible! You also saw, everywhere you looked big, pretty red, white and blue banners stretched everywhere stating ‘God Bless America !’. I remember the pride I felt for my country as I would see street after street literally lined with Old Glory and these banners…day after day.

I would ride around and in my travels just look at all of the flags, even counting how many were on various streets. I would see the banners and get this feeling of pride and say to myself, yea! God Bless America!…. God Bless America ! …….(and the it started to hit me)…….God Bless America??…….. (It hit me harder) God Bless AMERICA???

WAIT A MINUTE!!!! What about my daughter and son-in-law IN LONDON!! God Bless America ???
We need God to bless the whole world !!!

By now I found myself actually getting a bit upset. I’m thinking and thinking. My mind takes it even a step deeper. Now I’m analyzing this wonderfully patriotic historic phrase. God Bless America? Are we asking God to bless just America? Can’t be. Who do we think WE are. Do we really think that God created people all over the world, but he only desires to bless us! Are we nuts? So, THAT bugged me and bugged me as I found myself praying for God to bless us and keep us safe here in America, while at the same time I had to pray that God would bless and protect my loved ones in London.

So one day, while sitting on the edge of my bed watching the news, I grabbed my guitar and it just came to me. The chorus to what is now considered the New Anthem for World Peace. God Bless THE WORLD-While You Bless America.

And now, the more I pay attention to what’s going on in this world, not just Iraq…but the 300 children killed in Russia…the starvation in the Sudan…the Tsunami…the attacks in London…Katrina…thing after thing…I realize just how important my musical message really is. The fact is, there is no way that WE can be blessed if we don’t have the desire to see the entire world be blessed.
That’s why I sing it with every grain in my body…

GOD BLESS THE (whole) WORLD!!! (Not JUST America)

p.s. Thanks Jeff. You got me thinkin’ !

Greg Jones
