you can get a prescription, but they typically make you feel worse than actually having a panic attack. I went to the DR..got my heart monitored and everything checked just for peace of mind..then I took it upon my self to psychologically help my train of thought when I had them…..I would go run out side to get fresh air…at some points if it got really bad i would get driven to the ER and not actually go in…it really helped knowing doctors were a few steps away. (sounds weird I know, but ER bills are so high!)

I was wondering if I have the symptoms of an anxiety attack?
I’ve been really stressed out lately but I’ve never experienced this before, and it’s happened in the middle of Crate&Barrel without notice and other places as well.

Symptoms: I felt almost apathetic, and I got light headed almost sedate when walking around the store, and when my husband asked me which item I wanted to buy I got shooting pains up my left side of my torso, up my neck, and my breathing became restricted. I sat down, and took deep breaths, but I felt almost zero emotion at that point for what was being said.

Yeah certainly could well be, sounds like it. I get them almost everyday unfortuantely, as I did nothing about them when they started years ago (didnt know what they were and wasnt diagnosed correctly). I know what your saying. Don’t panic though (easier said then done), no one ever died or suffered any physical injury from an anxiety attack, just go to a doctor.

There are many things you can do at home that can help with panic attacks and feelings of Anxiety. As mentioned above, meditation and yoga can be really helpful and help to control your attacks.

If you can locate the source or cause of your attacks then you will be able to treat the problem and effectively come out the other side panic free! Being a previous severe sufferer I know hopw it feels and understand how hard it may seem!

Agoraphobia is a type of phobia classified as a fear of being in places where you feel or think help might not be available, and is usually manifested by being in crowds, on bridges, or just being outside alone. Agoraphobia often accompanies an anxiety panic attack and could cause several other anxiety panic attack symptoms to manifest.

Many people report that suffering through anxiety panic attack symptoms is very unpleasant and sometimes horrifying. A few of the symptoms are dizziness, choking, hyperventilation, trembling, chills, sweating, racing heartbeat, and hot flashes. During a panic attack, one may also go through a spine-chilling sense of detachment from reality.

Episodes of panic attacks are appalling, but fortunately physically harmless. Panic disorder is a common condition in which a person has episodes of intense fear or anxiety that occur suddenly. These episodes – called panic attacks – can last from minutes to hours. They may occur only occasionally, or they may occur quite frequently. May occur randomly or when a person is exposed to various events that can "trigger" a panic attack. They suffer from panic disorder usually have a series of intense episodes of extreme anxiety known as panic attacks. These attacks usually last 10 minutes, however, may be of short duration, 1-5 minutes, too. Some individuals deal with these events regularly, sometimes daily or weekly. The external symptoms of a panic attack often cause negative social experiences. As a result, as much as 36% of all individuals with panic disorder also have agoraphobia. At least 1.7% of adults Americans, or about 3 million people, have panic attacks at some point in their lives. Panic attacks are a period of intense fear in which 4 of 13 definite symptoms develop suddenly and rapidly to peak within 10 minutes of symptom onset.

Some people are affected by frequent bouts of panic, a condition known as panic disorder. Panic disorder is thought to be largely inherited. People who experience panic attacks may fear they are dying, drowning, or who are having a heart attack. Panic attacks may indicate the presence of panic disorder, depression, or other forms of anxiety-based illnesses. About 5% of the population will experience panic attacks during their lifetime. A person experiencing a panic attack may believe he or she is having a heart attack or that death is imminent. The fear and terror that a person experiences during a panic attack is not proportional to the real situation and may be unaware of what is happening around them. Panic disorder can last for months or even years, depending on how and when requested treatment. There is also some evidence that many people may experience symptoms disappear, of course, later in life. Panic attacks can occur at any time, even during sleep. Panic attacks are treated with techniques of relaxation and tranquility.

Most people get better with treatment. Panic disorder is real and potentially disabling, but can be controlled and successfully treated. People often go to theaters hospital emergency when they have panic attacks, and extensive medical tests may be performed to rule out these other conditions, creating more anxiety. Antidepressants tricyclics such as imipramine and MAO inhibitors like phenelzine (Nardil) have also been used, but many people experience side effects that are difficult to tolerate. Exposure to the phobia trigger multiple times without a resulting panic attack (due to medication) can often break the pattern of panic-phobia, allowing people to function around their phobia without the help of medication. Most of stimulant drugs (caffeine, nicotine, cocaine), is expected to worsen the situation, directly by increasing the panic symptoms, such as heart rate. Stress-relieving activities such as tai-chi, yoga, and exercise also can help ameliorate the causes of panic disorder.

Tips for Panic Attack Treatment

1. Tricyclic antidepressants such as imipramine and MAO inhibitors like phenelzine (Nardil) have also been used.

2. Exposure to the phobia trigger multiple times without a resulting panic attack.

3. Stress-relieving activities such as tai-chi, yoga, and exercise can also help improve the causes of panic disorder.

4. Avoid stimulants such as nicotine and caffeine, which can be found not only in coffee, but many teas, sodas and chocolate.

5. Psychotherapy offers support and help to minimize the fear of symptoms, and sometimes is enough to clear the mess.

6. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps people learn to cope with panic symptoms, using techniques like muscle relaxation and breathing.

7. Antidepressants such as Tofranil, often help reduce anxiety and the frequency and severity of panic attacks.

8. Meta-analyses13-15 support the efficacy of CBT in improving symptoms of distress and disability in general.

The stressful situations or some types of responsibilities may precipitate both of them. However, if you are able to hold the rein of anxiety you will see that your condition of attacks get the better of you. Each of us is affected by anxiety at one time or another in our lives. Although very often we need to know the difference between normal anxiety and chronic anxiety that usually leads to the victim of panic attacks anxiety. Some common symptoms of anxiety attack are discussed in this article.

Many of the symptoms are physical and are caused when we are about to fight or try to escape a danger or threat. Although they have evolved since the cave man, the instinct tends to occur and yet overcome us – very inconvenient at times.

When we are trying to escape danger or prepare to fight against our heart rate rises and increased blood flow to the lungs, kidneys, liver and other major organs that require blood. The lungs are also working hard to help the heart and provide us with more oxygen to the muscles of the race and prepare for action. This leads to palpitations, chest tightness, acute pain and shortness of breath that are commonly associated with anxiety attacks. The adrenaline is released in large amounts in her body that is why the twitchiness muscles, feeling warm and cold anomalies related to the stomach, like butterflies, leg weakness, constipation and vomiting. The mind and other senses also are sharper and alert.

As a matter of fact, body, behavior is only to deal with the fight or flight needed at that time. How to overcome anxiety and panic attacks?

I just started getting some of the attacks and symptoms in all my life and I searched Google and all these people are saying they have suffered for years with disability and anxiety just learn to live with it … which of course made me even more crazy. I do not want to live if I have to deal with this! I never really do anything suicidal, but this is making me very depressed. The success stories? Preferably do not use drugs, but cognitive behavioral therapy or something else?

The first thing I had to do was to recognize that is panic or anxiety, and not a heart attack! My attacks were so debilitating that often pass out and end up in the emergency room wondering what happened this time. I found a great therapist who taught me how to get through the attacks. When I felt it was coming, I would go somewhere alone, like another room or in the hallway or whatever. I sit quietly and count slowly, breathing deeply and closed his eyes. Soon my heart rate calmed down, I would stop shaking and the attack would ease up. Sometimes I had to have pretty high, but sometimes could only count to 200 or so, and it would loosen. The effort I have forgotten symptoms and I knew that my attacks only lasted about 6-8 minutes, so I just sat quietly, and keep doing deep breathing, as I was taught. Soon the attack was over and he was fine. This did not happen overnight, but as serious and as often as my seizures were any relief at all was welcome. Now, when I feel a panic attack coming in, I do the same, knowing you can get through it without medication. (Xanax helped me in the beginning, but side effects were horrible and I stopped taking it.) Sometimes instead of telling myself, I would count on the fingers or the photo of the numbers in my mind, any thing to keep in my mind attack symptoms. Give a try-it might work for you! I also suggest a good therapist. I also learned meditation and yoga to relax. Both can be wonderful tools to help you. Best of luck, you can!
